Playbill poster design.
Writer Nikki Brake-Silla commissioned the poster design for 'from' in 2021. Created was a poster that responded to the context of family and belonging within this one act play.
from weaves a tale of Hammer (baba), Vessel (mama), Silence (daughter) and Nail (son). A nod to Greek tragedies, “from” illustrates the complications of cultural differences that arise when one person has a strong sense of self and history, and the other has ethnic erosion due to the lasting impressions of that ‘peculiar institution’ of slavery. Each character gives us a mirror into the complexity of gender and power.
This gallery highlights the design from concept and conversation, to completion.
